Santa’s Letter

“I will never forget this experience” ….

December 2020

Santa Carl,

One of the blessings in our community is Children’s Square, which has cared for and nurtured children for 138 years.

For the last several years, I have been privileged to play the role of Santa Claus on Christmas for the children on campus during the holiday.  Visiting with the children, I really felt the importance of my being there with them.  Separated from their families at Christmas, these children seemed especially fragile and vulnerable to me.

Last Christmas Eve, I met the children one-on-one, and offered to hold my hands with theirs.  I vividly remember a little boy who took my hands, looked me straight in the eye and asked me, “will you be my dad”?  Stunned, I felt an unbelievable emotion, and I quickly answered, “we will always be here for you.”

I will never forget this experience.  The reality of that young boy’s circumstance hit me hard.  The impact that my small gesture made on a child left an impression that will be with me for the rest of my life.

Please give what you can to help these precious children.  Your gift will go a long way to help continue the programs and services that Children’s Square offers to help children with behavioral and mental health needs.  Together, we will make a difference in the lives of children!

May you and your family have a blessed Christmas.

Thank you!
